Sunken Forest

After the abysmal weather of the past few weekends, Saturday was the first true summer weekend. As such Arielle and I decided to hit Sunken Forest which is part of the Fire Island National Seashore. It was amazingly quiet given that it was the first real summer weekend. It was like that last year as well so I guess it's just not well known because it's the nicest beach I've been to on Long Island - highly recommended.

And yesterday we spent painting the living room, making us realize how amazingly dirty the walls were. Alas, still quite a bit to go till we finish the apartment repaint.

Take this brother, may it serve you well.

I've been reading a bit of what Larry Lessig (he thinks hard you can tell by his pictures) has to say. He chairs The Creative Commons which is a group who have come up with some alternative copyright licenses that allow for the sharing of "creative works." Not that anyone would actually be interested in using any of the content on this site, but I thought I'd stick my site under a Creative Commons license because I can. Take that!

Poo Deferred, an adaptation

What happens to a poo deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore--
and then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load

Or does it just explode?

SummerStage Calendar

I don't know if anyone's interested in this, but I dropped all the dates from the Central Park Summer Stage concert series into iCal and published the calendar to my web server to which you can subscribe if you use iCal.

Feed Me

You may have noticed the link above that says rss feed and wondered what it is. An RSS feed is the content of this page in a special format that can be read with a regular desktop application. These kinds of applications sit working in background and periodically check each feed for updates. There are several RSS apps out there like AmphetaDesk for Windows, Linux, and OS X and NetNewsWire Lite for OS X. To use the RSS feed that I provide, download and install one of these applications. Then, click the Subscribe button and copy the RSS feed url (right-click on the link and select Copy) and paste it into the subscribe dialog. A lot of sites (like The Guardian and the BBC) provide this feature now so you can use it for them as well.

Fare thee well

One day about 4 years ago, I hopped on a plane down to Washington DC to work on a website for a small investment bank, FBR. It was a stupid fast project putting up a site in 2 weeks and I did it with four or five guys working 18 hour days for two weeks straight. We ended up staying for 8 months and built on online IPO application for them. The project manager from the get go was a guy named Marc Procaccino and he was a royal pain in the ass - the nitpickiest sonofabitch you would ever meet and a damn good guy to boot. On Monday he underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from the base of his brain but there were complications and from what I understand his brain started to swell. He was put on a life support system, but it was deemed that he couldn't recover and was taken off last night. That makes it a sad day indeed. So, here's to Marc Procaccino.

Field Dismay

Arielle and I had tickets to the Field Day Festival for a few weeks before we found out that her brother's engagement party was on the same weekend. So we waited until this week to try to sell the tickets but no one was really taking due to talk of it being cancelled. Turns out that it wasn't exactly cancelled but they rescheduled it for one day only at Giant's Stadium. Score for us as we get our money back and we don't have to lose money selling them on craigslist or something. But sucks for everyone who was actually gonna go as a show at Giants stadium is an entirely different event than on a big field in Long Island.
