SpellboundCaught Spellbound last night which is the best documentary I've seen since Bowling for Columbine. We tried to go see it at the Film Forum on Monday night but it was sold out. A friend with us, Mike, knew the manager who let us in for free to see Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary, a modern silent adaptation of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's production. Needless to say we walked out after 5 minutes and in doing so officially shunned ourselves from the New York Art Film Scene. Sweet!

Bludgeon Yer EyeArielle and I joined the crew from Pittsburgh to head down to beautiful Asbury Park, NJ last night for Ween's only show in New Jersey. The show was good but we missed the first 1/2 hour or so and it wasn't as lively as the show we went to at The Tradewinds a couple years ago (plus no Mike Elliott - jeez!). After the show we hit the beach and checked out the deserted and amazingly dilapidated remains of the Palace Amusements building which was pretty damn spooky in the misting rain and Jersey-pink night sky. If you're ever there check out the now empty carousel house as it has the longest echo I've ever heard.

Eight Feet UnderWe watched the latest installment of Six Feet Under last night on our beloved TiVo much to our disappointment. The episodes used to be well-balanced but have recently turned into As The World Turns with interspersed dream sequences. And what's going on with the taglines? Leave a general population to their devices and you start seeing things like "Sara Nelson likes dick", "my sister has hair on her tits", and "i've had sex with my mom." Classy, real classy.

MatriculencementThis was graduation weekend for young Arielle. So I came up here and scored some great food hanging out with her family as well as a few hellos and how'd'you dos. I feel like I need a break - the past two mornings we've been up at the ungodly hour of 7am. And now we pack up her stuff and head back to New York City in a rented SUV. On another note, the taglines feature seems to be working pretty well. You can take a peek at all the taglines if you're interested. Some of the most recent ones are lacking a certain je ne sais quoi. Actually, I do know what they're missing - an absence of suckiness. So I'll be editing the list at some point but you'll still be able to add taglines to your heart's content.

Look at all this stuffLots of stuff going on this week. I need to move our work servers out of their current location - we're basically server squatters just sticking it wherever friends of friends have a rack and spare bandwidth. Tonite's a fare-thee-well dinner party for my roommate, Adam. Tomorrow is the renewal of our lease on the apartment and in the evening drum rehearsal followed by an 11pm viewing of The Matrix: Reloaded. Then I'm off to Rochester for the last time for Arielle's graduation. Update: Actually I missed a night out of the rotation here. Tonite I caught John Rebourne and Jacqui McShee (of the long gone group Pentangle) with Rauri and Cara from days of yore in Pittsburgh. They played some great music both old and new.

Tiny CatsOne of my coworkers' wife works at an animal shelter in Long Island. They're looking after some kittens that were removed from a feral cat's uterus that was being spayed. Check them bad boys out.

Mel Gibson plays rock and roll?I was checking out the happenings at Makor which contains a listing for David Broza. They describe him as "the Mel Gibson of Isaeli rock and roll." Is that meant to be an insult or is there a side of Mel Gibson that I was unaware of.

5 person democracyLast night, I thought to myself, "spondooliks needs a tagline - something catchy, something that will grab you by the nadgers, whip you around and hurl you against a wall." Well, I'm not in the marketing department, so I leave it up to you, my 5 person readership, to come up with a tagline. Add taglines at will by clicking on the existing tagline next to the spondooliks logo.

A New Beginning!Along with some other small changes to the site, I've started to use Movable Type for posting blogs instead of Blogger. Not that Blogger isn't useful or well done or anything, it's just that Movable Type is much more flexible and let's me use things like Kung-Log for posting blogs. I haven't gotten the comments migrated over from the old system (blogkomm) yet, but I'll get to it in the near future.

A friend living in TorontoA friend living in Toronto sent me this today. I tell ya, those Canadians, as whacky as they are, have their heads screwed on straight. If it just wasn't so goddamn cold up there...
