Just posted some more piccies

Just posted some more piccies to viddy for your enjoyment. I captured some nice fire spinning on our apartment roof courtesy of Rowena and Adam (and a lil' bit o' me). You can get to them from the gallery or enjoy them directly.

I've been a bit snap

I've been a bit snap happy lately. Here are a few of the shots I've taken... not exactly nuggets of photo-aestheticism, but nuggets nonetheless:

This is the evening of the 11th looking straight down Broadway. It looks like the smoke comes all the way up to Houston St.

This is the view from just outside our office. We're about six blocks away. We've lost our net connection and phones, so we're working from my apt. for now. The photo looks as though it's been altered - like someone photoshop'ed in the fallen World Trade Center. Alas, no.

Merav, Ben, and I went to Union Square for a candlelight vigil. This photo does it no justice - it was beautifully sad.

Some candles the next morning.

On Saturday morning we decided to hit up the pharmacy for some goods that the rescue workers needed - you know saline solution, advil, heavy duty gloves. We dropped those off at the Red Cross station and asked what else was needed. Cigarettes. How could we have been so stupid as to NOT have guessed that? So we brought in a carton of Reds for the hard working guys and gals down there at WTC.

Here's Steve and Terry donning their masks heading down to office to see if we could get in.

Once we did get to the office we moved some of our machines to my apartment. Here's Steve with our portable office - laptop shmaptop.

The smoke has gotten quite

The smoke has gotten quite thick up here now. It's pretty awful stuff, burns your nose and induces headaches. A large pile of garbage caught fire outside our window about 20 minutes ago. 8 police cars and a fire truck showed up and lots of yelling and screaming ensued.

The aftermath seems like it's

The aftermath seems like it's slowly progressing. Word is that a few thousand may have been in each tower when they collapsed. I was up on the roof with my roommate and two friends, one of whom saw the plane fly overhead as she was standing on the balcony, two minutes after the first plane crashed. We climbed right up to the water tower. We had been up there for 10 minutes when we saw the second explosion. I snapped a picture after the second crash.

We were watching TV when the first tower collapsed, at which point I decided to go looking for Merav who I couldn't get a hold of. As I biked over to her apartment, fire trucks and such were driving north covered in dust. Several of them had stopped and were pulling injured people out of the trucks. In typical fashion, there were camera's everywhere... this is such a photographer's city. Merav wasn't home, so I rode home to find out that the second tower had collapsed. I turned to email since all phone lines were busy and started to communicate with many people over email. Merav turned up a few minutes later having walked up from City Hall (about 5 blocks from WTC) where she was when the first tower collapsed.

That's my story - today I'm trying to get some work done at home since my office is off limits being 8 blocks from the WTC. Smoke has started to drift up here some what.... pretty acrid smelling, but I can't imagine what it's like at 0 World Trade Center.

I didn't get a chance

I didn't get a chance to load up the pictures from my trip yet. Still not in the mood to use a computer during the weekend. Last night a whole slew of people showed up at Union Square to play music and spin fire. We managed to keep it going for 2 hours until the New York's Finest gave us the boot, no doubt instigated by some lovely Union Square resident complaints. According to the officer in charge we couldn't do what we were doing without a permit. "So where do you we get this permit?", I ask. "Oh, you can't get a permit for this." Thanks officer!

Good Lord! What a trip

Good Lord! What a trip - I rolled in from the airport directly to work to get some things done before heading home. I'm still here but finally wrapping things up. I'll hopefully have some pictures up here soon. Now that I've had a chance to really see the west coast, my "Let's move out west" motive is certainly piqued.
